DOCKLANDS PIED-A-TERRE

With four young children at home, the clients wanted their London flat to become a calm and restorative retreat—a home that offered respite from the pace of everyday family and work life while subtly reflecting the warmth and character of their main residence. Used primarily as a pied-à-terre during the working week, the apartment needed to feel equally welcoming for one person yet comfortably accommodate the entire family when visiting London together.

Their vision was for an interior that felt warm, inviting and quietly playful, with a layered palette that brought character without compromising practicality. The spaces needed to be effortlessly liveable and low-maintenance, allowing the clients to arrive and immediately feel at home.

Perhaps most importantly, the design needed to celebrate the apartment's exceptional riverside setting. The clients wanted every room to embrace the expansive views across the Thames towards Canary Wharf, while capturing the ever-changing quality of light and the unique sense of tranquillity that comes from living beside the water. Sight lines and reflections were a key aspect, creating movement, amplifying the natural light, and mirroring the water.
