HISTORICAL SUSSEX RESIDENCE
Having previously collaborated with Caitlin on their first home, our clients re-engaged CMI following their move to this historic property, with sections dating back to the 1500s. The brief was to create interiors that felt fresh and playful—reflecting the spirit of a young family—while respecting and celebrating the rich heritage of this unique English home. The clients also sought guidance in navigating the challenging proportions and unconventional layouts of the space.
The walls, which originally carried a yellow undertone, were repainted in a crisp white to introduce brightness and provide a clean contrast to the dark timber beams, allowing more expressive colours to be incorporated. Furniture layouts were carefully considered to ensure functionality within the home’s irregular spaces, working harmoniously around beams, fireplaces, and other characterful architectural features.
